Overview
The station was opened on 12 June 2004 as part of the roughly 15 km long Flughafenschleife Köln, which leads from Köln Messe/Deutz station to the Cologne–Rhine/Main high-speed line. It was, after Frankfurt and Düsseldorf, the third German airport station with ICE connection and lies as a tunnel station about 18 m underground between the two terminals.
Services
- Long-distance rail: ICE 10, ICE 41 call at the station; further ICE connections (among others to Frankfurt and Stuttgart) supplement the offer
- S-Bahn: Line S19 of the Cologne S-Bahn
- Regional rail: RE 6 (Rhein-Weser-Express) and further regional connections (among others to Koblenz via the Left Rhine line)
Station layout
The station has four tracks at two 405 m long and 9.40 m wide island platforms beneath a vaulted glass roof; between the station heads there is a double track connection for ICE trains terminating in Cologne/Bonn. Escalators and lifts lead into the lower level of Terminal 2; a connection to Terminal 1 has existed since 2007.
