Macau is a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China[1]. China resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Macau on 20 December 1999, when the Macao Special Administrative Region was established[2].
It lies on the west bank of the Pearl River Delta next to Guangdong, 60 km from Hong Kong and 145 km from Guangzhou[1], and consists of the Macau Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane, joined by the Cotai reclamation[1]. Its population was 688,300 at the end of 2024; the official languages are Chinese and Portuguese[1].
Seventeen Macau restaurants are listed in the Black Pearl Restaurant Guide 2025[4].
