Cardcaptor Sakura is a shōjo manga by CLAMP, serialized from the June 1996 issue of Kodansha's Nakayoshi to the August 2000 issue, with the collected volumes published by Kodansha. The story follows the elementary school student Sakura Kinomoto as she gathers the scattered Clow Cards and turns them into her own cards.

Adaptation and reception

The television anime was produced by MADHOUSE and began airing in 1998; a theatrical film and the sequel "Clear Card" arc followed. The work is known for its card-collecting premise and its many transformation outfits, and is the representative example of the magical girl genre replacing battle with collection.
