Messenger is a messaging app owned by Meta, released in August 2011 as a standalone app spun out of Facebook's in-site chat and tied to the Facebook account system.
It supports text, voice and video calls, group chats, stickers and payments, and has gradually been merged with Instagram direct messages; in some markets it also carries customer service conversations between businesses and users.
