Meta, formerly Facebook, is an American multinational technology company founded in February 2004 at Harvard University by Mark Zuckerberg and others, headquartered in Menlo Park, California; the company was renamed Meta in October 2021 to reflect its investment in the metaverse and artificial intelligence.
Starting from social networking, its core products include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Threads, and most revenue comes from online advertising; artificial intelligence research is carried out by the Meta AI labs, which also power the Meta AI assistant.
