Threads is a text-based social platform owned by Meta, launched on 5 July 2023 and sharing the Instagram account system, so users sign in with the same account.
The platform supports short text, image and video posts with reposts, likes and replies, and has tested interoperability with open protocols such as ActivityPub; its user base grew quickly after launch.
