The U9 is a 12.5 km long, fully underground line of the Berlin U-Bahn with 18 stations, opened on 28 August 1961, connecting Osloer Straße in Gesundbrunnen via Zoologischer Garten with Rathaus Steglitz.
The U-Bahn line U9 runs entirely underground in a north–south direction from Osloer Straße in Gesundbrunnen via Wedding, Moabit (Turmstraße, Hansaplatz), Zoologischer Garten and Kurfürstendamm through the west of the city centre to Friedenau and Steglitz (Rathaus Steglitz). It has 18 stations and a length of 12.5 km. The line was opened on 28 August 1961 as line G and was last extended to Rathaus Steglitz on 30 April 1976.
Line G, planned as the third north–south line of West Berlin, was built from 23 June 1955 and opened on 28 August 1961 between Leopoldplatz and Spichernstraße. It is the only Berlin U-Bahn line built entirely after the Second World War and entirely on West Berlin territory. This was followed by the extensions in 1971 to Walther-Schreiber-Platz, on 30 September 1974 to Rathaus Steglitz and on 30 April 1976 to Osloer Straße.
